Don’t let sleep disordered breathing disrupt your life
Suffering from loud snoring? Feel tired and less energetic throughout the day despite getting a full night’s rest? Experiencing daily headaches that you can’t explain?
Believe it or not, the problem may be with how you’re breathing while you sleep. Sleep apnea, also known as sleep disordered breathing, is a common condition that all too often goes untreated.
At Miss Lou Family Dentistry, our sleep apnea dentist has been specially trained to offer advanced airway management treatment. If you feel like you’re experiencing sleep disordered breathing, we’ll work with you to diagnose and treat your sleep apnea to ensure you are breathing and sleeping safely.
Symptoms of sleep disordered breathing include:
- KGrogginess and tiredness throughout the day
- KIntense morning or daytime headaches
- KDisruptive and loud nightly snoring
- KSore throat and dry mouth when waking up
What is sleep disordered breathing?
Sleep disordered breathing is a medical condition that causes you to stop breathing momentarily while you’re sleeping. Generally, this is caused by an obstruction of some sort that is blocking your airway. This can happen hundreds of times throughout the night. When you stop breathing, you’ll often even momentarily wake up without even knowing.
Unlike many dental afflictions, sleep disordered breathing can fester for years without you having any idea that there is even a problem. While this may just seem like a minor inconvenience, it can actually be quite dangerous.
Some common side effects of sleep apnea include:
- Sleep loss, which results in loss of energy and focus
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease and an increased likelihood of stroke
- Weight gain
